Follow on Google News | Severe Weather Decimates West Texas Camp BuildingBy: West Texas District Assemblies DYD Rogers Severe storms in West Texas are not unusual, they have been known to cause isolated and widespread damage. The area has experienced excessive heat, tornados, dust storms, haboob, and sand particles from the Saraha Desert making their way to West Texas. Early Sunday morning on August 18, an isolated storm decimated the Lakeside 300s building at the West Texas District camp at Roaring Springs, Texas. The 30-year-old building hosts a conference room, eighteen hotel-style rooms, and a commercial kitchen. Lakeside 300s sustained extensive damage to nine hotel rooms, the conference room, and the kitchen. Ceilings, walls, furnishings, and infrastructure (plumbing, electrical) will need to be replaced before campers can return. Like many district campgrounds and churches, the property was self-insured. Contingency funds are not sufficient to return the building to its previous status. The District has received generous discounts on trusses and metal roofing materials. "We thank God there were no lives lost, and the damage was localized to Lakeside 300s. God has provided contractors and businesses supplying materials at a discount. It is our prayer churches and individuals in our fellowship will help us with contributions of resources, labor, and finances" said Pastor Nick Rogers, West Texas District Youth Director who oversees the camp at Roaring Springs.
