Broken Policies, Broken Trust: MNPD's Mishandling of Sexual Misconduct

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Sept. 12, 2024 - PRLog -- A truly healthy and effective organization is built on leadership that prioritizes the safety and well-being of both its employees and the community it serves. Sadly, firsthand accounts from current and former Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) employees and the growing number of clients at Silent No Longer reveal that this commitment is missing within MNPD.

In a powerful response, the Community Review Board (CRB) unanimously approved a groundbreaking Zero-Tolerance Sexual Misconduct Policy for MNPD on Monday, August 26, integrating key elements from the policy created by Silent No Longer Tennessee in 2020. This policy was endorsed by the Police Policy Commission and Mayor John Cooper. Despite the clear support from leadership, experts, and their own employees, MNPD chose not to act. As more MNPD employees turn to Silent No Longer for support, it is evident that we can no longer wait for MNPD to make the right choice on their own.

On Tuesday, September 17, Silent No Longer Tennessee, in partnership with the Community Review Board, Nashville Organized for Action and Hope, and Metro Nashville Council Women's Caucus Chair, Councilwoman Joy Styles, will host a press conference at Diane Nash Plaza at 1 Public Square. Join us as we stand united in calling for immediate action to protect those who protect us.
