The Canal Arts Announces a Groundbreaking Public Art Mural Project: "Peoples of the Canal"

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Sept. 24, 2024 - PRLog -- Funded by Marin County's Nonprofit Partners grant program and other donors, the Peoples of the Canal mural, the work of immigrant artists, Oscar Morales, Vladimir Cuevas and Estefania Garcia, depicts the cultures of San Rafael's largely immigrant Canal, from Coast Miwok presence thousands of years ago to the future, to be created on the social activity center of the Canal, the Albert J. Boro Community Center.

The artists will begin their work on September 26, assisted by artist-members of the Canal community and members of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. All are welcome to visit as the mural takes form. A gala unveiling party will be announced to celebrate the completion of the project. The Canal Arts, together with the community leadership group Voces del Canal, helps provide Canal families educational opportunities through its monthly "Art Saturdays", gatherings where families create art together, providing a creative outlet for the immigrant rich community.

The Canal Arts  was instrumental in San Rafael's adoption of its new policy supporting public arts projects. Founded and directed by architect Rich Storek to create inspiring public art in San Rafael's Canal, The Canal Arts, supported by Marin County educational, business, arts, and community service organizations* is producing this groundbreaking project.
