Follow on Google News | Commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the World Peace Summit Trees for Peace ReforestationBy: HWPL This initiative is part of a global celebration marking the 10th Anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Summit, first held in 2014 in Seoul, South Korea. The summit gathers over a thousand global leaders to address conflict resolution, religious harmony, and legal frameworks for lasting peace. The 2024 anniversary, celebrated in over 50 countries, reflects a decade of promoting global harmony and collaboration under the theme 'Creating World Peace Community Through Regional Collaboration,' with the IPYG as a key partner. At the "Trees for Peace" event, over 100 volunteers gathered at WynTree Nursery, where community leaders, councillors, and peace advocates re-potted 236 seedlings in just one hour. These efforts aim to combat carbon emissions and restore forestation in Western Victoria, particularly in Wyndham, which faces climate challenges due to low tree canopy cover. Participants also enjoyed a community barbecue and collaborated on a mural symbolising peace, unity, and environmental stewardship, serving as a lasting reminder of their shared vision for a sustainable future. Walter Villagonzalo, a social entrepreneur and founder of the WynTree Reforestation Project in Wyndham, emphasises the long-term impact of these efforts, saying, "What we're doing here is for the next generation. Peace and trees both have the same long-term objective. The next generation, the younger people, our grandchildren, they will benefit from what we're doing now. HWPL is promoting peace worldwide and in our local area as well." Rashidi Sumaili, CEO of Future Voices and the National Mandela Learning Center, adds, "We need the community to come together. I know we may have our differences as human beings, but it's very important to build unity among us because unity is our strength. The lesson we learn from this summit is something that we build on because the world at the moment needs unity and peace." Councillor Susan McIntyre, Wyndham City Council stated, "Planting trees is very synonymous with preparing for the future you're looking forward to. The trees that I plant and the developments will be for my children. The fact that you have got all these young people here wanting to contribute in such poor weather, I just think is amazing and it's really a testament to the strength of both groups and how much people believe in it."
