Great Days Of Service Returns to GA In October
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Oct. 3, 2024 - PRLog -- Designed to address some of the county's most pressing needs, Great Days of Service represents the largest community volunteer initiative in Gwinnett County each Fall. Offering an eco-friendly twist on the annual event, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful (GC&B) and Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources (DWR) will team up in October for Great Days of Service 2024. With two ways to commemorate the weekend-long event, volunteers can opt to pick up litter or transplant native trees in Duluth's Gwinnett Place area.

"We are honored to partner with our friends at Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources, Georgia Piedmont Land Trust, Gwinnett Place CID, and Gwinnett Serves for another impactful event," said Schelly Marlatt, GC&B Executive Director. "While other civic organizations, nonprofits, corporations, and schools may host events to address other critical issues within our community – such as food insecurity, homelessness, veteran and senior support, and more – the environmental health of a part of the county that has long been identified with a gateway to our community is our aim for this year's Great Days of Service. Picking up litter and ensuring the longevity of native plants go a long way in preserving the beauty of our community. And community appearance goes hand-in-hand with our economic vitality and community enjoyment – two essential matters that affect us all."

The GC&B/Department of Water Resources leg of Great Days of Service 2024 will comprise:

Litter Pick-Up – Friday, October 18, from 9am to noon and/or Saturday, October 19, from 8am to noon
– Volunteers will collect litter along a vital wetland area near Gwinnett Place in Duluth. They should expect to be outdoors for the length of the event, including off-trail in the woods. Clothing should include long pants, long-sleeved shirts, closed-toe shoes, hiking boots, or muck boots. Water, a snack, bug spray, and a hat are also recommended. To register, visit https://cerv.is/0024x4674.

Native Plant Rescue – Saturday, October 19, from 8am to noon – Volunteers will dig and transplant native plants from one site to another. This will require access to a vehicle to travel from one site to the next. They will meet at 1965 Evergreen Blvd, Duluth and will need to dress according to the weather, boots preferred. Volunteers are recommended to bring water. All tools will be provided. To register, visit https://cerv.is/0024x4690.

A limited number of slots are available for each. All Gwinnett County volunteers must agree and complete a Waiver of Liability and Release Form before participating. As thanks, volunteers will receive a Great Days of Service t-shirt designed by the talented team at Lawrenceville-based Accent Creative Group while supplies last.
