Upcoming Illustration Workshop Explores the Power of Positive and Negative Space in Art

A new virtual workshop features the critical concept of positive and negative space in illustration art. A fundamentals topic, this online event includes hands-on drawing exercises to begin training the eyes to work with positive and negative spaces.

POTOMAC FALLS, Va. - Oct. 14, 2024 - PRLog -- The art of illustration goes beyond simply drawing figures and shapes—it involves mastering the relationship between elements on the page. Artists seeking to enhance their drawing and design skills can now register for Mastering Positive & Negative Space in Illustration Art (1 of 2), an online workshop that explores the vital concept of positive and negative space for rendering figures and shapes. The fundamentals workshop will be hosted by Mayra Yadir, a mixed media artist with 30 years communications design experience, who'll share real-world examples and practical techniques to help illustrators and Creatives alike improve their image-rendering skills.

Taking place as the first of two events in a special series, this workshop will dive into how understanding and manipulating positive and negative space can drastically enhance an artist's ability to create dynamic, visually captivating artwork and designs. The event will be interactive, offering attendees not only insights into the practice but also hands-on drawing exercises to begin training the eyes to see figures and shapes in more contextual ways.

"Mastering positive and negative space allows illustrators, artists, and Creatives to improve their rendering of figures, objects, and shapes in a way that feels more intentional and balanced," shares Mayra Yadir, an Illustration MFA graduate who's been teaching a range of mixed media and digital design topics since 2023.

Participants of this virtual workshop will gain essential skills in recognizing and establishing spatial relationships to achieve greater clarity and balance in their illustration art. Beginners and seasoned artists alike will benefit from the engaging lessons, which teach students how to "see differently" as they learn how to better contextualize figures in (physical) space.

As part of the event, attendees will receive a downloadable booklet, which includes helpful samples and various tips to continue honing their skills beyond the session. This workshop is an opportunity for any illustrator looking to improve their draftsmanship and significantly improve their image-rendering capabilities.

Registration is now open (with multiple date/time options) for Mastering Positive & Negative Space in Illustration Art (1 of 2): https://mayrayadir.com/virtual-classes.

Stay tuned for more information on the second event in the series, which will build upon the foundational skills learned in this first workshop.
