Peak Physical Therapy & Sports Performance Offers Oncology Rehabilitation

NORWELL, Mass. - Oct. 16, 2024 - PRLog -- .Peak Physical Therapy & Sports Performance has created a new program with physical therapy interventions for patients undergoing treatment for Oncology diagnoses.

Physical therapy can be offered at every stage of a patient's treatment plan. Oncology rehabilitation can help patients stay active and independent prior to, during and after receiving their care. Exercise during and after cancer treatment can reduce side effects of treatment and help with recovery. Research from the American Society of Clinical Oncology has shown that physical activity and exercise can also lower the risk of cancer returning.

Cara Driscoll, PT, DPT, Clinical Manager at the Cohasset Clinic has met with specialists at Dana Farber Cancer Center to create the Peak Oncology rehabilitation program. Physical therapy can help address symptoms such as cancer-related fatigue, neuropathy, lymphedema, fall risk, incontinence and sexual dysfunction and chronic, acute and surgical pain.

Physical Therapists can offer patient-centered interventions including; progressive strengthening, cardiovascular endurance training, breathing mechanics/rib mobility, stretching and passive range of motion, posture retraining, pelvic health, lymphedema management: KT Taping/ wrapping/ massage; scar mobility: dry needling/cupping/ instrument assisted myofascial release; and balance and proprioceptive training.

"Our patients undergoing treatment for Oncology diagnosis have had great success with physical therapy interventions," said Eric Edelman, PT, founder of Peak Physical Therapy and Sports Performance. "Establishing this extensive program allows us to work in conjunction with patients and their Oncology specialists in supporting their treatment and recovery."
