AMP8: Envirogen launches SimPACK to the UK municipal market, for nitrate removal from boreholes etc

ALFRETON, U.K. - Oct. 16, 2024 - PRLog -- Alfreton. Water treatment specialist Envirogen Group has launched its SimPACK Regenerable Ion Exchange (IX) system to the UK municipal market. SimPACK is designed to strongly target the high-level removal of nitrate from boreholes and other water sources polluted by nitrate, typically found in fertilisers and farm animal effluent. While optimised for nitrate removal, SimPACK is also capable of addressing other contaminants that may be present in groundwater.

"Nitrate run-off into groundwater from fertilisers and effluent used as a fertilise can be a6significant health hazard, especially when ingested at elevated concentrations," says Envirogen UK & Europe CEO Bill Denyer. "But because nitrate is a polyatomic ion, SimPACK can remove it to exceptionally low levels thanks to its use of speciality resins and state-of-the-art IX counter-current regeneration technology. This enables consistent blending of the treated water to meet the required Nitrate concentrations acceptable for drinking water."

Denyer adds, "SimPACK is particularly useful for borehole operations at remote locations, because it generates up to 80% less wastewater than conventional nitrate removal plants, allowing the wastewater to be transported at much lower cost and carbon footprint, for safe disposal elsewhere.

"More wasteful, conventional techniques of ion removal result in very costly disposal where there is limited sewer disposal, or none at all, on-site."

Used for nitrate removal at more than 30 water extraction sites globally, and with 20 years of operating experience, SimPACK's reliability is proven. The system comes with full-service support and optional remote digital monitoring.

The municipal market includes not only water and sewage, and water supply companies and independent suppliers, but contractors as well. As water companies prepare for Asset Management Plan Period 8 (AMP8), effective asset management will be the key to achieving the regulatory objectives of sustainability, resilience, and efficiency. The plan, for England and Wales, is the eighth asset management period regulated by Ofwat, and sets the framework for operators to manage their assets, deliver services to customers and invest in infrastructure during the 2025-2030 capital programme.
