Russo named Lionesses player of the year

Somewhat surprisingly, Russo's victory means that an Arsenal player has now won this award for the first time. James came second in the running for the accolade, which was decided by a fan vote, with two-time winner Bronze coming in third. This news will certainly give the Lionesses striker a timely confidence boost ahead of fixtures against Germany and South Africa. England welcome the former to Wembley on October 25, before taking on South Africa in Coventry on October 29.
