The Eternal Zoo Premiere
TAIPEI, Taiwan - Nov. 4, 2024 - PRLog -- Last weekend, on November 2 and 3, The Eternal Zoo, a 30 minutes-long performance, made its world premiere in Taipei, Taiwan, at the Center for Art and Technology, Taipei National University of the Arts; the audience was drawn into a thought-provoking performance that skillfully merges art and technology to question humanity's relationship with animals and nature.

The production is directed by the renowned Taiwanese media artist Yen-Tzu Chang and offers an immersive, interactive experience. As a dancer guides the audience through shifting layers of space, they unveil thematic chapters on biodiversity, extinction, and preservation—engaging attendees in unexpected and captivating ways.

This multi-disciplinary performance, The Eternal Zoo, stands out with its unique blend of cutting-edge digital technology, percussion, and synthesizer music by Hai-Ting Liao, AI-driven theater visuals by Kuo-Han Lee, and expressive dance choreography by Szu-Wei Liao. Collaborating with Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), the piece creates a unique immersive experience that captivates audiences and inspires collaborators.

Through four chapters—Rebirth, Celebration, Collapsing World, and The Mythical Beast—the piece tells the stories of iconic species like the Formosan sika deer, the Asian elephant Lin Wang, and the extinct Formosan clouded leopard, exploring themes of captivity, human intervention, and conservation.

The premiere received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with attendees describing it as 'thrilling,' 'amazing,' and 'unlike anything they had experienced.' During a lively Q&A session, questions were raised, e.g., about the role of animal toys in urban life and whether robots might offer companionship in their place. The Eternal Zoo creates a space shaped by human imagination and projections about animals, prompting viewers to reconsider their perceptions and connections to other species.

The work will be expanded into a full 50-minute performance; the Eternal Zoo is currently open to venue and partnership opportunities, inviting European collaborators to bring this exploration of unique human and animal connections to an international audience.
