Will Universities Again Baby Students Over Trump's Win?

In 2016 Angry Students Got Everything From Shrinks to Play-Dough

WASHINGTON - Nov. 6, 2024 - PRLog -- On college campuses there could easily be a repeat - of worse - of 2016 when Donald Trump's win upset many students so badly that they claimed they could no longer function.

Many universities treated their apoplectic students like children by providing them with everything from grief counselors and psychologists to rooms filled with bean-bag chairs, play-dough, Lagos, and bubbles to help them cope.

The result was a wussification of many students, treating them as if every disappointment was a serious trauma.

It helped lead to many "woke" accommodations, trigger warnings, bans on books and even on certain words, the cancellation culture, demands for protection against not only misinformation and disinformation, and more.

It was especially serious at law schools where graduate students are supposed to be able to deal with real and serious trauma, says public interest law professor John Banzhaf who reported on the campus impact of Trump's win in 2016.

Universities Creating Generation of 'Wuss' Lawyers, Says Professor (https://www.timeshighereducation.com/news/universities-cr...)

What happened in 2016 - and it could get much worse now, especially given Trump's recent threats - is just further evidence that law schools are raising a generation of wuss lawyers, unable to stand up to tough judges and often underhanded opposing counsel in order to protect the freedom, the financial welfare, and sometimes even the freedom and very lives of their clients.

What would attorney Patrick Henry, who famously said "Give me liberty, or give me death!"), say if he heard law students now saying "Give me play dough so I can cope!"

But in at least some situations, universities were convinced to stand up to the outrageous demands of students who demanded to be appeased as a result of Trump's first victory.

Now that students have a better idea of what a new President Donald Trump is likely to do - from his four years in office, his own recent threats, and disclosures by former close confidants - and Trump is likely to learn from his past mistakes by appointing only people most loyal to him, their reactions may be more intense; especially since what Trump may do will affect many of them much more directly that the Mid-East conflict which gave rise to campus encampments, the occupation of campus offices and buildings, and more, predicts Banzhaf.
