On January 13, 2025, RECULTURE FILMS will launch a worldwide digital event featuring the release of their internationally acclaimed documentary The Village of Lovers, followed by the Fugitive Futures Summit, an online discussion that will explore the film's central themes. The documentary tells the story of the Tamera Peace Research Village in Portugal, recognized as the world's most successful ecovillage. While 95% of communes founded in the 1960s and 70s failed due to interpersonal conflicts rooted in humanity's core shadow areas—love, sex, money, and power—Tamera flourished by addressing these issues directly. They developed a groundbreaking culture of trust, empathy, and transparency, reimagining the concept of "Free Love" through a paradigm "love free from fear." This stands in contrast to the limited ways in which modern society is increasingly embracing polyamory, yet often overlooks the broader social and political importance of this shift. Tamera's approach challenges conventional ideas about the nuclear family and marriage, and offers a widened perspective on regenerating a "relational ecology" The Village of Lovers is an inspiring and thought-provoking look at the power of prioritizing community, shared solidarity, and openness, ultimately striving for a thriving future beyond war. Co-directed by Ian MacKenzie, John Wolfstone and Julia Maryanska, and funded by a global community of over 500 individual donors, this documentary was truly a community effort. The January release aims to reimagine communal living and our collective potential to tackle shared challenges, such as environmental threats & social breakdown, while exploring models for regenerating a living culture. _____ The five-day summit that follows the film's screening from January 29 – February 2, 2025, "Fugitive Futures" features thought leaders and edge walkers from a wide range of fields to have the difficult conversations on both the visions for, and shadows that stand in the way of, a regenerative future.
