WASHINGTON - Dec. 20, 2024 - PRLog -- Washington, D.C.-The Law Offices of Kim Parker, P.A. and The Law Offices of Governor E. Jackson, III, LLC are proud to announce the filing of a lawsuit against The Not-for-Profit Hospital Corporation (NFPHC), commonly known as United Medical Center (UMC), located in Washington, D.C. The complaint alleges serious misconduct, including assault, battery, and violations of constitutional rights against our client. The incident at the center of the lawsuit occurred on November 20, 2023, when our client was waiting in the Emergency Room. While expressing concern about an extended wait time, he was allegedly subjected to an unprovoked assault and battery by Special Police Officers employed by the hospital. Following this incident, our client was falsely imprisoned and admitted to the hospital's Psych Ward against his will. "We believe that no one should have to endure violence and mistreatment, especially in a place that is meant to provide care and support," said Kim Parker, managing partner at The Law Offices of Kim Parker, P.A. "This lawsuit serves not only to seek justice for our client but also to hold accountable those who unlawfully wield their authority in sensitive environments such as hospitals."

United Medical Center has faced scrutiny in recent years over several alarming incidents involving patient care, including allegations of inadequate treatment and safety violations. Reports of patient mistreatment and concerns regarding the conduct of hospital staff have raised serious questions about the facility's operational standards. This incident is but one example of the troubling environment that has persisted within the hospital.

Adding to the gravity of these issues is the recent decision by the D.C. Council to begin defunding United Medical Center — the only hospital serving residents east of the Anacostia River. Spearheaded by Ward 7 Councilman Vince Gray, the move to close the hospital has been framed as part of a broader strategy to save taxpayer money and transition to a new healthcare system, potentially culminating in the construction of a new facility at the St. Elizabeths campus.

"Our legal action aims not only to seek justice for our client but also to shine a light on systemic issues within United Medical Center that jeopardize patient welfare," said Parker.
