Follow on Google News | New Era Arrives for Book Publishing"Self-publishing is entering a new and exciting era. Never before has it been so easy and simple to release a novel."
With a surge of new novels reaching the market place every day, it can become overwhelming just to search through them to locate the book that meets our requirements. While reviews normally help in the decision making process, a word of caution is in order. Until recently an author could be banned by Amazon for paying for those reviews. The reason for this is logical. Paid reviews can distort the picture and lead to disappointment by the reader. Why would any author spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to obtain fake reviews? While it may look good on the resume, in the end it can have disastrous consequences. Eventually the truth will come out, and readers will shy away from those books written by authors that practice such deception. Then how do we spot those fake reviews? Quite often there are tens of thousands of reviews posted for books that we have never even heard about. Is this a sign that something is amiss? Recently there was a post on FaceBook stating that the biggest problem in choosing their next read was in wading through all those fake 4 star reviews. This raises an important question; just who is monitoring this situation to protect consumers? In researching the issue concerning reviews, it was noted that even well known authors sometimes garner only 3.5 stars out of five and yet readers seem to love the book. Is it unrealistic to expect 4.5 star reviews in order for the creation to be a good book? We don't think so and to further complicate things, competitors can easily give a stellar book a 1 star review when they never even read the book. A couple of those could pull the rating down from 4 stars to 3.9 or even 3.8. Is this fair and who does it serve? It's certainly not helping readers who are genuinely searching for their next read. With that being said, here is a suggestion. Go on Amazon or an author's website and read a sample of the book. Better yet, listen to a sample of the audiobook and see how it sounds to you. Then make up your own mind as to whether or not this book is right for you. Hopefully you find this helpful in the decision making process. We would love to hear from you. www.BooksByRogerGrubbs.com End
