Garland notes that there are now two separate reports by Smith, one dealing only with Trump, and the other dealing with Trump's co-defendants. By releasing only the former, Garland has undercut the legal standing, as well as the legal argument against releasing any report about the unlawful classified documents; i.e. that any such release might harm the co-defendants Nauta, a former Trump aide, and De Oliveira, a manager at Trump's resort in Florida. Banzhaf was successful in winning one of the most significant U.S. Supreme Court cases on legal standing. He also played a role in obtaining special prosecutors for former president Richard Nixon, and his formal legal complaint led to a multi-count criminal RICO indictment of Trump in Georgia. Garland announced in a court filing that he will release the report on Trump "in furtherance of the public interest in informing a co-equal branch and the public regarding this significant matter." The other report will be released only to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees, but Banzhaf notes the real possibility of a leak of that report also. JOHN F.
