ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Jan. 14, 2025 - PRLog -- There are two contenders on the ballot for the current special election. The first candidate is Josh Weil's. Weil's congressional campaign has become a rallying cry for progressives and moderates alike, even many Republicans. Selmont hasn't helped his case with voters, frequently referring to himself as "Republican light," claiming Democrats can't win, and refusing to answer questions about his residency and the ballot challenges surrounding his candidacy. The breaking point came when a local journalist wrote a scathing article calling on Selmont to step aside for the good of the party—and the country. In the piece, she highlighted Selmont's admission that he doesn't believe he can win.

"If Ges Selmont himself admits he cannot win, then he needs to step aside and let Josh Weil get through," the journalist wrote. "It's apparent that Selmont is not looking to be the candidate America, and this district need right now. He is no hero. He's become a wall in Weil's way, and he needs to stop standing in the path of progress and the real hero we all need."

The journalist also pointed out Selmont's bitterness over Weil's success. "It's clear Ges Selmont resents Josh Weil's incredible fundraising abilities, his well-run campaign, and the overwhelming support he's received from the community," she wrote.

A Stark Contrast in Leadership

While Selmont's campaign has been defined by negativity and inaction, Weil's has been the opposite. He's out in the community, listening to voters, and building momentum with his hopeful, solutions-driven message. From his viral moment hugging a military spouse to his policy-driven campaign events, Weil has shown voters what leadership looks like.

"Josh Weil is everywhere—school board meetings, community events, and town halls," said Torres. "I've never seen Ges Selmont at anything except Democratic meetings, and I don't think he cares about the people here."

Weil himself addressed the contrast in campaigns. "Leadership isn't about tearing people down or spreading negativity," he said. "It's about showing up, listening, and working hard to make a difference. That's what I've done my entire career, and that's what I'll do in Congress." Weil has not taken Selmont's bait in engaging back negatively. He remains true to his mission and refuses to let career type politician's goat him into changing who he is.

The Stakes Couldn't Be Higher

With control of Congress hanging on just two seats, this race is about more than one district. It's about the future of the country. Weil's supporters believe that every moment spent dealing with Selmont's obstruction is a moment wasted in the fight to flip this seat blue and derail Trump's Project 2025.

"This isn't just about one race," Weil said. "It's about protecting our schools, our rights, and our democracy. The stakes are too high for petty politics."

As the campaign continues, the calls for Selmont to step aside grow louder across many social media platforms. Voters and national observers alike are placing their hopes in Josh Weil—not just as a candidate, but as a symbol of what politics can and should be.

"Josh Weil isn't running for power," said Jen, a local who works at Universal Studios. "People from across the nation ask if I know Josh. His far-reaching popularity is like a music star. He's running for the people and for the nation, for his kids and for yours. He wants to bring our military home safely. He will fight to stop laws Americans don't want or can harm others. And that's the kind of leader we all need right now."

"I tell theme park goers that I get to see him in action. He is my hero, my son's hero, my daughter's hero, my 78 year-old grandmother's hero, the military spouse hero, the union hero, the marginalized community hero... In a world where new laws are becoming more extreme and less tolerated, Weil has done what no recent candidate has.  He ran a campaign on empathy and sympathy, calming the fears of millions." She then used a Harry Potter analogy. "As many of us know, there is hope in the Hufflepuff house, and darkness in the Slytherin house. Vote wisely."

Selmont, who did not respond to our call, will be facing some tough questions this week, as big media descends into District 6. While Weil is displayed on a national podium, the world is watching to see what obstacles or barriers Selmont will harness to block Weil and diminish hope for millions.
