About the authors Louis de Bernières is a British novelist born on December 8, 1954 in London. He studied at the University of Manchester, Leicester and London, obtaining a degree in philosophy. After working as a teacher, he devoted himself to writing full-time. His fame exploded with the novel Captain Corelli's Mandolin (1994). Louis de Bernières is known for his rich characters, his lively historical narratives and his explorations of the themes of love, war and the human condition. He is considered one of the most eminent contemporary British authors. Arnaud Ribadeau Dumas, a French painter, was a student of the Czech painter Jaro Hilbert, who passed on to him a taste for the precision of drawing, the subtlety of shadows and the science of volumes. A lover of Cephalonia, he set up his studio there so that the landscapes and lights of the island could nourish his inspiration. For Captain Corelli's Mandolin, his first illustrated book, Arnaud carried out meticulous work of historical research to faithfully reproduce the landscapes and buildings of the island during the Second World War and before the earthquake that devastated it.
