TOPEKA, Kan. - Jan. 30, 2025 - PRLog -- Joseph Nagrant, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Revize Government Websites, will be presenting an insightful session on the critical topic of ADA Website Accessibility at the upcoming Kansas Association of Public Information Officers (KAPIO) February monthly meeting. The presentation is scheduled for February 5th at noon.

As online accessibility becomes a growing concern for government entities and public sector organizations, Nagrant's session will focus on the do's and don'ts of making government websites fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Attendees will learn about common pitfalls in website design, practical steps to enhance accessibility, and how to ensure their online platforms are inclusive for all users.

"We're excited to offer valuable insights on improving digital accessibility for public information officers," said Nagrant. "Ensuring that government websites are accessible is not only a legal obligation but also an important step toward fostering inclusion and equal access for all citizens."

The session will cover:
  • Key principles of ADA compliance for websites.
  • Practical tips for accessible design; including color contrast, keyboard navigation, and alternative text.
  • How to conduct accessibility audits and testing.
  • Real-world examples and best practices from government websites that have successfully implemented ADA-compliant features.

This presentation is especially timely as state and local government agencies are increasingly held accountable for providing equitable access to their digital services. In April 2024, the Department of Justice (DOJ) ruled that the content of websites and mobile apps provided by state and local governments must be accessible to citizens with disabilities and comply with the ADA. Compliance dates vary from April 2026 to April 2027, depending on the population size of the government. The decisive rule means that the DOJ can take action against state and local government agencies that fail to meet ADA requirements for online services. Nagrant's presentation will provide invaluable information that can assist local government officers in safeguarding their websites from costly lawsuits in the future.

The Kansas Association of Public Information Officers conference brings together communication professionals from across the state to share best practices, innovations, and strategies for improving public service. https://www.lkm.org/page/KAPIO-WhoWeAre (https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https...)
