Bank On Oakland, CA: Local Students to March Downtown and Uptown for Financial Literacy

Oakland, CA – Over 120 fourth and fifth-grade students from Franklin Elementary School will take over the streets of Downtown and Uptown Oakland—not for a protest, but for a powerful lesson in financial empowerment.

OAKLAND, Calif. - Feb. 6, 2025 - PRLog -- Financial Literacy for Kids is organizing the first-ever "BANK ON Oakland, CA Crawl," which will see students visit major banks, meet financial experts, and participate in interactive sessions to learn how money, banking, and entrepreneurship shape their communities.

With financial literacy education now required in California high schools, this event brings real-world financial education to elementary students, bridging the knowledge gap at an early age.

"This is more than a field trip—it's a movement. We're teaching kids how money works, how to build wealth, and how to change their futures," says Val Chapman, Founder & CEO of Financial Literacy for Kids.

What's Happening?
  • 🏦 Bank Visits (10:00 AM – 11:30 AM):  Students will tour financial institutions, learning about banking, credit, and saving.
  • 💼 BizKid$ Vendor Tables (11:00 AM – 12:00 PM): Young entrepreneurs will showcase student-run businesses.
  • 🌟 Awards Luncheon (12:00 PM – 1:30 PM): Celebrate with inspiring speakers, including State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond (https://www.linkedin.com/in/tonythurmond4spi/?utm_source=...), Yanely Espinal (https://www.linkedin.com/in/yanely-espinal-missbehelpful/), Jeannine Glista, John Martin, Lisa Love, and enjoy a delicious meal catered by Oakland's own Top Chef Nelson German.

Why It Matters

With nearly 70% of U.S. adults struggling with basic financial literacy, early education is key to breaking cycles of economic inequality. Oakland's students are already proving that knowledge is power—winning 1st and 2nd place in the Stock Market Game's San Francisco/Bay Area elementary school division six trading seasons in a row!

This event offers a rare opportunity for local media to witness firsthand how financial education is transforming young lives.
