By: Cadcorp South and Vale have a joint technology strategy aimed at providing digitally enabled public services and a digitally empowered workforce. This endeavour has accelerated the councils' decision to replace its legacy on-premise infrastructure with a Software as a Service model. After conducting a benchmarking exercise, they reviewed suppliers via the government G-Cloud framework for a cloud hosted and managed desktop GIS, web mapping system and PostGIS spatial database. Cadcorp was successful due to its software's user-centric features, functionality, cost-effectiveness, and ability to quickly onboard the system before the required go-live date. SIS WebMap is an easy-to-use application that shares map-based information on both PCs and mobile devices. The application will be used by both councils and act as a single repository for all mapping data. South and Vale are also deploying a public-facing web map, including Cadcorp Local Knowledge™, to automatically answer popular questions about a locality. This will enable members of the public to self-serve and independently access a wide range of information. SIS Desktop in the cloud will be used to meet the councils' GIS requirements, such as data creation, querying, analysis, and modelling. Mark Minion, Head of Corporate Services at South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse District Councils commented: "Our longstanding shared service arrangement across the two councils is one of the most successful and sustainable in the UK. We needed an off-the-shelf GIS and web mapping product that all council services and residents could access and use as a single source of truth. After reviewing G-Cloud suppliers, it became clear that Cadcorp cloud GIS software and services directly aligned with our strategic business plans." Cadcorp supports Local Authorities in transitioning from onsite systems to cloud hosted and managed environments. Cadcorp software is directly used throughout the public sector as well as being integrated into applications provided by our range of technology partners. GIS and web mapping in the cloud can bring significant benefits as it has the potential to reduce the overall cost of ownership and the administration overhead of keeping software and data up to date.
