MERCED, Calif. - Feb. 26, 2025 - PRLog -- Weaver Performing Arts (WPA) presents Disney's Aladdin JR. at the Merced Theatre on March 7th at 7 PM and March 8th at 1 PM and 7 PM. This 60-minute musical, tailored for middle school performers, brings the beloved 1992 Disney film and its 2014 Broadway adaptation to life.

Led by Director Jenae Day, Choreographer Celeste Casanova, Musical Director Bethy Harmelin, and Cast Manager Amy Whitfield, the cast of 59 students promises a spectacular show. "This show is amazing, and the kids never fail to impress," says Director Day, highlighting the talented cast and their dedication.

Following the success of Moana JR., this marks WPA's 18th production since 2003 and the third time they've staged Aladdin, now updated with elements from the Broadway version. Audiences can expect a vibrant retelling of Aladdin's journey, filled with adventure, humor, and iconic songs like "Friend Like Me" and "A Whole New World."

The story follows Aladdin, a lovable thief, as he seeks to win Princess Jasmine's heart with the Genie's help, while facing the villainous Jafar. This production is sure to delight audiences of all ages with its colorful characters and engaging storyline.

Aladdin JR. is presented through Music Theatre International (MTI), a leading theatrical licensing agency. MTI provides resources for educational theatre, including Broadway Juniorâ„¢ shows designed for young performers.

WPA, serving Weaver Union School District students, has a rich history of producing Broadway Junior musicals like Cinderella and Frozen JR.. The program involves students from three schools and includes school shows during the week leading up to the public performances.

The Weaver Performing Arts Boosters (WPA Boosters), formed in 2023, supports the WPA program, providing financial and volunteer assistance. They fund equipment, materials, and activities, ensuring the program's continued success. In 2024, over 6,000 people attended WPA's Moana Jr. production.
