Follow on Google News | Arkesia's new EP entitled "Celtic Whispers - Tales of Love and Water" out from Friday, March 7thWith Celtic Whispers - Tales of Love and Water, Arkesia weaves together the ancient voices of Celtic Europe with the sounds and emotions of distant lands, inviting us on a sonic journey through myths, seas, lost love, and love rediscovered.
By: Maxy Sound The journey begins with The Skye Boat Song, a ballad about the "nostalgia for oneself". Born as a Jacobite song for Charles Edward Stuart, this melody captivated Robert Louis Stevenson in the 19th century, inspiring the author of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde to rewrite its lyrics. Arkesia reinterprets this version, made famous by the series Outlander, with the harp played with a bow like a cello, harmonica and tin whistle dancing together, while the bodhrán and the sound of a sailing boat, recorded in a harbor in southern Italy evoke the sea carrying away memories. A very different mood is found in As I Roved Out (And Who Are You?), a lively and playful track, possibly dating back to the 17th century, that humorously recounts a romantic encounter between a soldier and a beautiful girl. The Irish bouzouki, mandolin, Chinese erhu, and flutes paint the different scenes of the story, while cymbals and a shamanic drum add a touch of magic. The third track, My Jolly Sailor Bold, is the melancholic and seductive song of a lovesick mermaid, written in the 18th century and revived in modern times thanks to the film Pirates of the Caribbean. Guitars and harp create a suspended atmosphere, the choirs swell the waves, while Silvia Bilotti's flageolet vocal register transports the listener to the depths of the ocean, where love and destiny intertwine. Ethniù-The Dove is the only original track on the EP and tells a myth of love, a story of captivity and liberation, of light triumphing over darkness. The harp, erhu, and flutes weave dreamy melodies, while harmonious choirs narrate the transformation of Ethniù (imprisoned in a tower since birth by the evil King Balor, her father) through the power of love. In the end, humanity is one great story: a song that repeats through the centuries, with different words but the same heart. Celtic Whispers - Tales of Love and Water celebrates this unity, taking the listener on a journey where the past meets the present, and every voice becomes part of a single, magical sonic tapestry. "Celtic Whispers - Tales of Love and Water" will be available on all digital stores from March 7, 2025, released on the Maxy Sound label. Link to listen https://bfan.link/ End
