Follow on Google News | Rally to Open Topanga Canyon BoulevardBy: Coalition to Open the Road Join us as we gather to ask that timely repairs to our main road become a priority. The Rally to Open Topanga Canyon Boulevard will take place at Grandview Drive and Topanga Canyon Boulevard, near Jalan Jalan Imports on March 30 from 1-4pm. The event will feature music, sign-making, kids' activities, local businesses and the La Chingona Food Truck. Parking is available along the road. The main road through Topanga has been closed to PCH since the fires. Subsequent mudslides then made the road impassable, and the community is suffering. Local businesses are being hard hit, while parents struggle to get kids to schools in Santa Monica and beyond. Elders are cut off from nearby medical care. Commutes normally 30 minutes long are stretching to multiple hours. Anyone who travels as part of their work simply can't make a living, such as tutors, trainers, housekeepers, caterers, massage therapists, delivery people and others. Topangans are asking government leaders to make the road repair a priority and to give us a timeline so we can cope and plan. "Sometimes Topanga gets overlooked unless we speak up. Of course, the road needs to be repaired so it's safe and secure. All we're asking of our elected officials is that it happen quickly and that our community be informed of the schedule," said event organizer Sahaja Douglass. "We're calling it a rally not a protest. This will be a Topanga-style event, featuring music, food and fun. We are gathering to bring attention to this matter in support of our businesses, commuters and school children who badly need the road open," added Julie Howell, another organizer. The event is free and open to all. Supported by the Topanga Chamber of Commerce, Topanga Town Council, Topanga Association for a Scenic Community, Topanga Community Center, and the Coalition to Open TCB. End
