Not in My Name: A Jewish Person Speaks Out Against Trump's Attacks on U.S. UniversitiesBy: The Stream CORVALLIS, Ore. - March 17, 2025 - PRLog -- "As President Trump attacks our universities, theoretically to protect Jews, of which I am one, I disavow him and his heinous actions. Colleges and universities are supposed to be bastions of critical thinking, diversity, and vision," says Beth Green, spiritual director of The Stream, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to Oneness, Accountability & Mutual Support. "And although I found some of the pro-Palestinian protestors to be one-sided, I can understand their anguish in the face of the brutality of Prime Minister Netanyahu, the Israeli government, and the US in their disregard of the needs and autonomy of Palestinians. I am also appalled by Hamas, and at this point, I am equally appalled by Trump's authoritarian detention of Mahmoud Khalil with no due process."
Green believes that Trump is using antisemitism as an excuse to crack down on dissent and to attack any institution that encourages critical thinking. "Do you really think that Jews believe that Trump loves us so much that he is championing our cause? Or do you think that many of us realize Trump has made a deal with Netanyahu to suppress any kind of rebellion in the Middle East so that the US can pursue its own goals? The guy has real estate designs on Gaza, and he thinks of nothing but power and money." Green also feels that Trump has promoted stereotypical views of Jewish people, the bean counters, and that he has no understanding of the Jewish soul. "Jewish people have been traumatized over centuries, feeling insecure and constantly displaced. Following World War II, we became even more compelled to safeguard our people. Sadly, this has led to devastating consequences for all involved. Attacking U.S. universities and colleges, attacking protestors and critics, these are not the values of the Jewish people, who have suffered for their religion and have fought valiantly against unbridled capitalism, exploitation, and prejudice over the years. If you want to honor us Jews, Mr. Trump, please start to champion compassion, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness."
