Follow on Google News | ![]() Michael Bennett Kress Named "Best of Bethesda" Best Photographer for Weddings & EventsBy: Bethesda Magazine Reflecting on his career, Michael shared, "I've been doing photography a really long time—since high school yearbook staff, actually. What I fell in love with then, and still love today, is the connection I make with the people I photograph. That connection is the most important part of what I do." A graduate of the prestigious Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in photography, Michael's journey has been shaped by his appreciation for iconic imagery and conceptual creativity. "One of my biggest influences has been Annie Leibovitz. Her ability to translate profound ideas into visuals is genius. I've always loved that conceptual aspect of photography," Michael's passion for his craft is matched by his dedication to his clients. Whether he's capturing the romance of a wedding day or the joy of a family celebration, Michael's approach is thoughtful and intentional. "Everybody dreams about their wedding day and what it will look like. My job is to tell that story," he said. "I want to capture those moments—the ones that make people feel and say, 'That is so us.' Those are the images couples will cherish forever." Known for his calm demeanor, sense of humor, and ability to ease even the most hectic wedding day, Michael brings a unique blend of artistry and professionalism to every shoot. "There are so many personal parts of a wedding day, and I wear many hats—therapist, court jester, and most importantly, someone who's there to make sure the couple has the best day possible. If I can help them live their day fully and remember it beautifully, I've done my job," he explained. Over his enduring 30-year career, Michael has embraced the evolution of photography, blending traditional techniques with modern storytelling. "Photography has changed so much since I started shooting on film, but what hasn't changed is the importance of capturing moments that people will treasure. It's about feeling the day, being touched by those moments, and creating images that allow people to relive them," he said. When he's not behind the camera, Michael enjoys biking on the C&O Canal, skiing out west, cheering for Washington's football team, and sailing on Stella Blue, his beloved sailboat.
