Six trainers led hands-on activities to enhance Self-Organisation, Cognitive Flexibility, Working Memory & Visualisation
Led by 6 trainers, the workshop focused on four essential skills: Self-Organisation, Cognitive Flexibility, Working Memory, and Visualisation & Verbalisation, each reinforced through hands-on activities. "Strong executive function skills are key to academic and personal growth," said Prudence Low, Clinical Director and Speech Language Pathologist at Total Communication. "We designed interactive activities to help students experience these skills firsthand." Key Skills & Activities Covered 1. Self-organisation – Students used a long-term assignment planner to break down a science project into manageable tasks, reinforcing planning, prioritisation, and time management. 2. Cognitive Flexibility – A drawing exercise challenged students to adapt when instructions changed midway, encouraging quick thinking and problem-solving. 3. Working Memory – A word recall activity introduced chunking techniques, helping students memorise and retain information more effectively. 4. Visualisation & Verbalisation – Exercises helped students convert information into mental images, improving comprehension and recall. The workshop wrapped up with take-home activities to encourage students to apply these strategies beyond the classroom. Teachers and students enjoyed the hands-on, practical approach, highlighting its real-world applications.
