A Walking Miracle--Patsy's StoryWhen No One Else Believed--God Spoke to Ron and Everything Changed
Patsy survived but slipped into a coma within days, her brain swelling and necessitating a respirator. At Duke Medical Center, doctors diagnosed her with a severe form of herpes simplex encephalitis (related to the cold blister), a virus attacking the brain, rated as an 8 or 9 in severity on a scale where 10 meant death. The increasing pressure in Patsy's brain caused paralysis on her right side and left her with significant memory loss, requiring full care. Despite the prognosis, Ron remained steadfast, providing love and encouragement. Remarkably, after a period of fervent prayers, Patsy's paralysis vanished, astonishing her doctors. Though the viral encephalitis erased most of her memories, she began to relearn everything. Her recovery at Shepherd's Center defied expectations; Instead of months or years, Patsy left rehabilitation after just four weeks, free from paralysis, without a feeding tube, and with memories gradually returning. She continued outpatient therapy and even enrolled in a local learning center. By year's end, Ron fulfilled a promise, giving her the new car she longed for. Patsy's recovery was deemed miraculous. Neurologist Dr. Darryl Kaelin noted her transformation as extraordinary, praising her return to near-normal life. Through the ordeal, Ron and Patsy's bond deepened, and their story drew attention as one of faith and healing. Ron continues to share their journey, with hopes of turning it into an inspiring film. During a conversation with Cary Solomon, the Director and Writer of God's Not Dead, Ron shared his story. Cary responded with a heartfelt recommendation for the movie, saying, "This story needs to be told to glorify God."
