CPSC Electrical Wire Testing Report-No Confirmed Answers-Consumer Chaos and Conflicting Guidelines

Report explains specific testing, results, and new findings concerning typical 110 volt, Residential Electrical Systems, referencing switches, outlets, and wiring, with Up-Dated Life Safety Guidelines or recommendations of smoke and fire alarms.

March 20, 2011 - PRLog -- New March 18th, 2011 - CPSC Report and Sandia Testing results appear to have clarified numerous questions and NOW provides, NEW specific safety guidelines, that really DO NOT EXIST, based on the attached documents.

http://www.cpsc.gov/info/drywall/Remediation031811.pdf

http://www.cpsc.gov/info/drywall/electrical031811.pdf

"Replacement of all fire safety alarm systems, electrical components (but not necessarily the wiring), gas service piping, and fire suppression sprinkler systems should address the metal components in the home at greatest risk of being affected by drywall-induced corrosion in a way that may affect the occupants’ safety."

After carefully reading the information and testing documentation provided above and the specific document quote above as an example ...

I'm sad to say ... MORE QUESTIONS have arisen ... than answers !

Example:

1)  Typical 220 volt stove, water heater, or dryer wire testing ... not mentioned ?
2)  Typical 220 volt wire insulator ... not mentioned ?
3)  What specific gases and concentrations is not clearly documented or mentioned ?
4)  What specific testing covers 110 volt wire insulator material ... not mentioned ?
5)  Smoke and Alarm System UP-DATE maintains removal required ... Nothing NEW !
What about other equipment and components with similar or identical wiring ?
6)  Outlets, switches, and breakers require replacement ...
What about other equipment and components with similar or identical functions ...
Disconnects, Fuses, Relays, Electrical Panel Bus-Bars, Pool Alarms ?
7)  What ASTM Standard certifies or confirms out-gassing compound test levels result
in corrosion and how were corrosion levels measured, and findings established ?
8)  Defining ... "but not necessarily the wiring" ... is not a clear statement and open for interpretations.

Clearly Consumers think ... NOW WE HAVE ANSWERS ...

After reading these Reports, most Professionals would assume ...
CPSC, HUD, and Sandia have answers to the questions above ?

Several statements and findings are not clear, concerning specific gauge or type of wiring tested, specific type insulation component testing of the wiring, specific multiple types of out-gassing exposures, specific voltage tested, and one of the most important, in my mind ...

What level of hydrogen-sulfide or other out-gassing compounds were used during these tests ?

Remember ...

NO ASTM Standard exists, concerning acceptable Residential hydrogen-sulfide, or most, if not all, Tainted Corrosive Drywall out-gassing vapor levels.

Now ...

In addition to the extremely conflicting, incomplete, confusing, and NEW CPSC Guidelines (3-18-2011), you have to add the Judge Fallon Factor ...

Judge Fallon's MDL Court rulings and approved abatement Protocol, specifically and clearly requires REMOVAL of ALL low and high voltage electrical wiring, components, and devices.

Clearly ... this NEW CPSC REPORT ... creates a legal delema and challenge to any and all previous opinions, statements, guidelines, protocols, and approved repair guidelines not only associated with the Judge Fallon MDL Cases, but also repair protocols endorsed by Environ and implemented nationwide by builders or developers ... Lennar, Taylor-Morrison, Beazer, DR Horton, and numerous others.

I look forward to the next CPSC Task Force Press Release or Government Report clarifying these questions or potentially creating more Consumer chaos and confusion ...

My cautious inter-voice keeps asking me ...

If Consumers follow all the current and interim CPSC and Government Guidelines and an electrical short or fire, results with the house burning down ...

Will the Government direct Insurance Companies cover the claims ?

Consumers can not get factual, testing confirmed, documented, and validated answers from the Government Agencies on just what specifically is causing the out-gassing vapors, from and associated with Tainted Corrosive Drywall (TCDW) ...

Yet ... These same Government Agencies ... NOW ... Proclaim and Provide NEW OPINIONS ...

DO NOT WORRY, the wiring in your house is safe ... just not the switches, outlets, breakers, smoke detectors, and alarms ... but not necessarily the wiring ... because we (Government Agency / Sandia) tested, under accelerated deterioration conditions, we think ... mimic 40 years ... of normal exposure ... TO WHAT ?

Please tell me ... others can see how convoluted these statements and findings are !!!

Since the beginning of this Tainted Corrosive Drywall issue  (February 2006) ... or dare I say ... cover-up (confirmed and validated by Florida Court Records, not just my opinion, since November 2008) ... by Builders, Suppliers, Manufacturers, and Developers ... over (5) five years later and continuing ...

Consumers have been VICTIMS with NO EASY LEGAL RECOURSE or GOVERNMENT AGENCY to address their construction problems, Health issues, and financial losses ... now find total conflict and chaos concerning information ... who should they believe or follow ?
