April 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Open this new science fiction novel by Russ Crossley and enter a world where excess is king. And queen. And super-sizing anything and everything will get you ahead in the world.

It’s morning in the year 3333 and mailman Jalapeno Popover is content in his deliciously idle job. Burgers, fries and jumbo slurpees keep him hydrated and happy during a long stretch between food breaks. Twenty minutes can seem like eons when you’re hungry. And Popover always is. Lucky for him he’s living in an alternate universe where big is always better.

Lucky him, that is, until a letter arrives on his desk. It looks like work. And it sucks him into a battle between Heavenly Sky Burger and Galaxy Pizza, two warring fast food giants. A mysterious alien race calling themselves the Lushites Alliance threatens to destroy them.

Russ Crossley, author of Attack of the Lushites, writes science fiction under his own name, paranormal romantic comedies as R.G. Hart, and mystery as R.G. Crossley. His short stories have appeared in anthologies from Pocket Books and St. Martin’s Press, and he has two novels previously published: Bachelorette Zombie Edition and Antique Virgin.

This is Crossley’s first book published by Lucky Bat Books, the publishing company run and operated by two authors – authors helping authors – that leaped into the forefront of publishing trends in 2010, offering writers a new approach to getting their works published.

“The concept is simple yet mind-bending and ultimately extremely freeing for writers,” says Judith Harlan, one of Lucky Bat Books’ (http://www.luckybatbooks.com) co-founders. “In the old, pre-e-Book days, writers paid their publishers 90 percent (or thereabouts depending on the writer’s contract) of every book sold, forever. We are an upfront publishing company. We charge affordable fees which the author pays and that’s all the author pays us. The author retains all rights and all income from the books we publish.”

Lucky Bat Books, though a young company, has published short stories and novelettes by award-winning Canadian author Douglas Smith, detective fiction by Des Zamorano, a kids’ book by G.Z. Sutton and more.

“We have several well-written fiction and non-fiction books in the process of editing, cover art, and book design, too,” adds the company’s other co-founder, Cindie Geddes. “Our criteria for accepting works into Lucky Bat Books imprint: great writing and great story-telling. Just that simple.”

The young publishing company brings together artists, editors, Website developers and marketing talent to provide a cafeteria of the services professional writers need. The cover for the Attack of the Lushites was designed by Lucky Bat Books artist Charles Nemitz.
