Jazz 4 Nothin’ will be kicking off the Holiday with selections from Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker. This Big Band craves the charts that challenge musician’s young and old!
By: jazz4nothin' With an ever growing fan base the Vendors and management of 263 Marketplace has asked this big band to return to the 263 Marketplace where they played back on Father’s day of this year. Jazz 4 Nothin has not only had a very successful summer but is primed to launch the holidays with a melodic cacophony of holiday and jazz music. The public is invited to treat their ears to a musical experience that will ignite that holiday spirit and cater to the friendly environment of the Vendors at 263 Marketplace. The big band might also unveil some of their smaller groups as a treat to the public as well. Started only a year ago by Alison Graham and John Tangye. Concerned about the lack of community jazz bands tackling difficult charts, the abilities of superior players no longer being challenged musically and the seeming decline of jazz music in the area, the pair ordered charts out of pocket and mustered together the group. This idea has grown into a non-profit organization that by donations and volunteers has recaptured the passion and creativity of audiences of all ages. A range of music that can blow the roof off a building to a sultry and melodic sound, there is no stopping these up in comers. The group has performed in numerous jazz festivals this year with much fanfare. They are ending this year in a bigger flurry than it began. Jazz 4 Nothin will also be playing a Holiday Festival on Dec, 16th at St Pauls Lutheran Church in Doylestown, opened to the public as a thank you for their hospitality in hosting the practices of this group. Members of the band are of all ages from as young as fourteen years old to members in their sixty plus years old. These talented musicians dedicate their time and talent from all over the Pennsylvania. The main objective is to mentor talented musicians to achieve a level not met before for their own personal goals. With charts that are difficult and a cooperative effort of all the members the music performed far exceeds that of the average band. The true keys to success are the drive of the musicians in the group. The love of playing and the mentoring of the less experienced have made this group more of a family than just another band. While still in its infancy Jazz 4 Nothin’ has exploded onto the scene and is now branding out to accomplish its goal. This group looks to recapture the big band sounds of Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson and Duke Ellington to name a few and then to create new and fresh sounds to capture the essence of what American music was meant to be. Jazz 4 Nothin’ is always looking for dedicated musicians young and old to help foster this nurture ship and follow in their creed. “Because Big Bands are supposed to be like, BIG!
