March 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Calling all Indie Authors! If you've found the road to marketing your book to be much rockier that you expected, there's some free help available. Richard Sutton, himself the author of two novels currently available in bookstores and online, has decided to offer his experience in corporate and consumer product, advertising and packaging design to writers who are currently finding the potholes and stumbling blocks on the way to self-publishing their work.

"It's not the breezy, simple process many are led to believe through the proliferation of online step-by-step guides and articles," said Mr. Sutton recently in an interview. "There are so many cleverly worded, highly deceptive traps waiting for the unwary Indie author, it's amazing that so many still are willing to brave the process."

Mr. Sutton went on to describe what he believes is the number one issue when it comes to authors and the cover they decide to use for their books. "Once published, your literary art becomes a product, plain and simple. An effective cover is packaging, designed to elicit the proper desired consumer response, whether online or in print." He added, "the most important job a prospective Indie Author can do is to fully research both the genre the book will be marketed as, and the reader they are targeting. Learning familiarity with your target, and putting that first is the first step to creating a markleting program. The book's cover is one component of that program, but a very, very important, highly visible one."

"As an Indie myself, I can at least share my experience and background to help ease the way for others who have the tenacity and perseverance to tread this rugged road."

He has published a series of articles on design for Indies on www.publetariat.com under the moniker, Indie Curmudgeon. His discussions are well-known on several forums and his own sites, www.SailleTales.com, for his writing; and www.rscom.co, for  his design services. The free evaluation form can be found there at www.rscom.co. If you have been agonizing over a book cover design, illustration, typography or other component, he'll be happy to take a look, offer and opinion and suggested steps to help make it an effective selling tool. "Free. No Strings at all," said Mr. Sutton with a smile, concluding the interview.
