Follow on Google News | Learning to Love Your Home Isn’t Always Easy or Even PossibleA new SciFi novella by fantasy author Richard Sutton. Learning to live like a cave-man isn't easy for rocket scientists, but for a fiddler?
The new book, released August 8th in eFormats and in paperback this past week by Mr. Sutton’s small press, http://www.SailleTales.com, finds a well-planned colonial mission from Earth, stuck twelve years away on a planet at the edge of the galaxy with no technology at all. Not even tools. Toughened by their survival on a war and drought ravaged earth, they still wonder if they will be up to the challenge of learning how to be cavemen again. Especially when they discover the uninhabited planet they are now stranded on, is not really uninhabited. Finding a way to insert themselves into an existing highly-developed culture when not every neighbor is even tolerant, makes for a thought-provoking story with many lessons. Even learning which trees to stay away from requires all their focus, but they discover over time, that they have something to offer their neighbors after all. Home is Richard Sutton’s third work in fiction. The writer remarked in an interview, that despite a lifetime of reading SciFi, writing it has been a departure, of sorts. “My work has already taken my readers into some pretty unusual settings, but creating an entire new world can be a stressful thing. It took me some twelve drafts and rewrites before it even felt almost normal.” He also described his readers as, "...folks who enjoy a story that makes 'em think, but don't need a lot of "special effects", explosions or pole dances to keep them in the loop." Normal? Well, if you enjoy a story that asks questions, in a setting that makes you wonder, Home might be the perfect escape.
