The scheme starts when the wife provokes the husband into defending himself. His only choice is to restrain his wife or strike back.

The wife then claims domestic violence by the husband and gets him arrested.

Once incarcerated the Comisaria de Familiar or Family Commission recommends prison or freedom, solely based on the wife's false testimony. The penalty is 6 to 14 years in Colombia prison.

If the husband wants to go free he has to pay extortion money to the wife.

Who else does the wife pay as being part of the extortion scheme? As you can see this extortion scheme is very elaborate, and uses the Domestic Violence laws for extortion purposes. In the case of my friend, his wife planned the whole series of events with her attorney friend, and her sister. By the way, the sister of the wife had used the scheme against her husband, a Colombian national.
