Hellertown Dealership Transforms Showroom Into World-Class Gym for ALS Spin-A-Thon

HELLERTOWN, Pa. - Feb. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- Hellertown, PA- To help spread awareness of ALS and raise money towards a cure, two area dealerships, in partnership with Team Philly Pro Tri, are teaming up to host a world-class “Spin-A-Thon” on February 22^nd from 12-4 pm.

Murray Motors of Hellertown will transform their entire showroom into a gym where members of the public can cycle alongside pro-athletes towards a cure. All proceeds will go to the Blazeman Foundation, a charity started in honor of Ironman Jon Blais, who died of the disease in 2007.

“ALS is a battle near and dear to our hearts and our goal is to raise at least $10,000 to help fight this fatal disease,” says Dan Dortic, owner of Major Hyundai of Stroudsburg and co-organizer of the Spin-a-Thon event.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.  While there is not a cure or treatment today that halts or reverses ALS, new drugs and therapies show potential in slowing the progression of the disease.

“Huge strides are being made in research to help people with ALS live longer, fuller lives and we want to be apart of the fundraising efforts to ensure that research continues to happen,” says Dortic.

In addition to cycling for a cure, donations of $100 or more will automatically enter participants into drawings for prizes such as 2 entries to Challenge USA in Atlantic City, 2 pairs of ROKA SIM shorts, a season pass to DelmoSports events including Wildwood Triathlon, Escape the Cape, and AC Tri, entry to the CGI Race of your choice (BlackBear Tri, NJ State Triathlon, Unite Half Marathon), 2 signed posters of Ironman World Champion Leanda Cave, and many more prizes yet to be announced.  Proceeds of the event will benefit the Blazeman Foundation, a charity started in honor of Ironman Jon Blais, who died of the disease in 2007.
