While the conference celebrates more opportunities for women in senior leadership positions than ever before, it also recognizes continued barriers to the achievement of equality in the workplace. According to a recent census conducted by Catalyst, women make up 47.3 percent of the labour force in Canada, but hold only 29.3 percent of senior management positions [1]. The disparity is particularly striking at the board level, where only 14.5 percent of board seats in corporate Canada are held by women [2]. In addition to featuring practical sessions to enhance core competencies, the conference focuses on ways that women in the senior ranks can advocate for future generations of women and help them to thrive in leadership roles. Discussions on implementing mentorship and sponsorship, building successful gender diversity programs, and the importance of taking risks in one’s career round out two days of lively presentations, workshops and networking. The forum is sponsored by Citibank and Melanie Lyne, with support from the HRPA, Women in Capital Markets, Company of Women and Diversity! in the Workplace. [1] Catalyst. Quick Take: Women in Canada.
