SMIC: U.S. Sanctions Have Turned The Chinese Company Into An AI Foundry

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Feb. 22, 2024 - PRLog -- NEW TRIPOLI, PA, … SMIC, China's top chipmaker, is progressing towards producing chips at 5nm, despite U.S. sanctions and restrictions, developing AI chipsets like Huawei's Ascend series, according to the report entitled "Mainland China's Semiconductor and Equipment Markets: Analysis and Manufacturing Trends," recently published by The Information Network,  a New Tripoli, PA-based market research company.

"SMIC has significantly invested in advancing its technology to 7nm nodes and is progressing towards 5nm and 3nm processes," reported Dr. Robert Castellano, President of The Information Network. "An artificial intelligence chip, the 910B, is manufactured by SMIC for Huawei."

"Between 2020 when sanctions were imposed and 2023, SMIC was able to acquire a substantial number of the approximately 240 Deep UV (DUV) systems ASML shipped to China during these three years." added Dr. Castellano. "Both companies are under U.S. sanctions, yet they have been successful reaching 5nm without an open supply chain and without Extended UV (EUV) technology."
