This theory is based on how the right and left hemispheres of the brain respond to visual images. The book written by Betty Edwards, focuses mainly on brain function and not on the genuine skills of drawing, which now exist thanks to Larry Gluck’s pioneering work on the subject. “You hold a pencil as a human being not a brain. To think that something as significant as the creative process can be categorized as “brain function” is rather disturbing and insulting to centuries of great artists who have been able to create wonderful works of art without paying attention to their brain. The authentic skills needed to learn to draw and paint beautifully exist. Early on I decided to bypass the “art world” and go straight to the people. My goal has always been to bring sanity into the arts so everyone can experience the joy of creating. The arts have been barred for centuries and left to a select few, yet there is no other place for a regular person to go and pursue excellence. The goal of Mission: Renaissance is a personal renaissance for everyone.” Gluck said. The Gluck Method starts by teaching students the definition of the word “draw” which means “to pull”. One pulls lines on a paper while drawing not push as in writing. In a matter of seconds, this information alone, can free someone from not being able to draw a straight line to someone who can.
