Hypertec Launches Its Next Generation Solid State Drive Technology

Hypertec launches its SSD range of products in response to the demand for greater disk performance.

April 9, 2008 - PRLog -- Specialist supplier Hypertec is today launching its solid state drive (SSD) range of products in response to demands for greater disk performance. Hypertec’s offering provides a longer read/write life and greater reliability as the physical hard disk drive to flash drive crossover approaches.

The solid state drive (SSD) is a flash-based data storage technology replacement for the hard disk drive (HDD). Without motors or moving parts, SSDs are faster and more reliable than traditional hard disk drives (HDDs), and also offer lower heat and noise generation while providing greatly improved durability and shock resistance.

Hypertec’s solid state drives provide maximum read speeds of 100MB per second and maximum write speeds of 80MB per second, making it one of the fastest SSD products in the consumer market. It can also cut boot speed in half when compared with current HDDs.

Hypertec’s SSDs currently range from capacities of 8GB to 128GB. These solid state drives offer superior performance with lower power consumption compared to hard disk drives. With impressive shock and temperature resistance, the SSD is robust even in the most extreme environments, making it perfect for mobile working.

“SSDs look set to replace hard drives as the primary storage choice as flash capacities continue to increase and with costs of SSDs expected to fall.” Says Lianne Denness, managing director at Hypertec. “We are pleased to announce our range of capacities, interfaces and popular form factors of SSD to meet the ever increasing demand for faster load times, greater mean time between failures and high speed data transfers.

“SSD has many advantages over a traditional hard drive as seek time is decreased significantly, making the SSD very fast. Being solid state, the drive has no moving parts to malfunction and a greater resistance to shock and vibration.  It also extends the life of a notebook battery, decreases the weight of the machine, creates virtually no heat, and runs more quietly. All essential elements for the ever increasing number of mobile workers.”

Hypertec’s SSD range costs from £125 for an 8GB drive and £819 for a 64GB drive. For more information please visit www.hypertec.co.uk.
