June 2, 2008 - PRLog -- When we decided to build our own homemade wind generator we really wanted it to look good. Our family had chosen to make a homemade wind generator because of the high cost of solar panels and the fact that we had no real water power source on our property.
But why would we build a wind generator when all kinds of commercial models are available out there? Well, they look nice but the price of new wind generators was is out there.
The 1000w wind generator we wanted to build would cost nearly $3000 if we bought it new. But we figured our  homemade wind generator could be built for considerably less money.
What we needed was a plan-
•   Plans to build a homemade wind generator
•   Easily accessible parts
•   It needed to be built with simple tools

We had investigated several possible sets of wind generator plans including those of Hugh Piggott, famed wind generator builder. We liked his plans but felt that the equipment necessary to build it was a little out of our budget.
We really didn’t have access to a metal lathe or welding equipment so we kept looking for some simpler plans to follow. We did look in every location we could think of, even sending out several emails to friends asking if they knew of any homemade wind generator plans.
Our family decided we wanted to build a wind generator that would produce 1000 watts of power, so hobby plans were out of the question.
Finally our friend John sent us an email telling us about some plans that he had just downloaded that he had used to build a really inexpensive 1000w homemade wind generater for his cottage.
The plans actually had cost him under $20 so we thought that was pretty good too. He had built his wind generator for under $100, even obtaining free wind generator towers in the process from a source outlined in the book-finding free TV towers that could a equip a homemade wind generator nicely.
We got started right away after seeing pictures of John’s wind generator in action and visiting the Off Grid Living Website where the plans were. They had some nice videos showing their first and second wind generators too.

We sure are glad that we took the time to find the right plans too. It only took about 4 days work to build our own homemade wind generator, now we are working on our second one! The whole family is involved in the project

Our family learned how to build homemade wind generators out of necessity and we soon discovered that we could help others learn how to build their own
