Mega Ice Announces Start of Children’s Ice Hockey League in Hong Kong

While the Summer Games sizzle in Beijing, ice sport is thriving in neighboring Hong Kong thanks to the state-of-the-art Mega Ice rink.

Aug. 22, 2008 - PRLog -- Beijing’s Summer Olympic Games have captured the world’s attention but next door in Hong Kong winter sport is in full-swing at the city’s best and biggest ice rink.

Hong Kong-based sports company Mega Ice has announced that registration is now open for the Mega Ice Hockey League for children aged 5-14. Games will take place on Saturday and Sunday mornings starting on the weekend of September 20th and 21st.

Hong Kong’s pristine 26 by 57 meter ice rink has been hopping all summer long with hockey tournaments and leagues, as well as figure skating.

The Mega Ice Hockey League for adults kicked off in June after the Hong Kong 5s international tournament, which drew highly competitive teams from around the globe. The Hong Kong team took down a tough squad from the United Arab Emirates to win the championship.

Ice skating is one of the world’s finest fitness activities. The U.S. President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports has rated ice skating as one of the best sports for maintaining physical fitness, and it can be enjoyed for a lifetime from ages 2 to 80 plus. It is also one of the best sports for children all year round.

Mega Ice offers a systematic coaching program to students developed according to the Ice Skating Institute (ISI). The ISI Recreational Ice Skater Test Program was developed and used as a worldwide standard for more than 40 years, and provides a logical progression of skating skills’ development.

The Mega Ice rink is situated in the Beehive atrium of MegaBox mall, and offers a stunning view of Hong Kong’s harbour through an impressive 30-meter wide glass window.

The rink is Hong Kong's first venue able to host Olympic qualifying games and international leagues. Mega Ice aims to bring world-class international skating competitions such as the Asian Figure Skating Championships and the Asian Short Track Speed Skating Championships to Hong Kong.

The state-of-the-art facility is also a multi-purpose venue designed for performances, concerts, exhibitions, corporate and private functions, and even birthday parties.
