Oct. 17, 2008 - PRLog -- The gift is to be used for athletic book scholarships.  Thornbury Township Chester County and Thornbury Township Delaware County will also receive $250 for the collaborative effort to host the event.

The gift was made possible by the proceeds of the First Annual Cheyney Challenge bicycle race held on Sunday, September 7th.  The event attracted some 200 racers from six states.  The six-mile route began at Creek Road and from there, went to Glen Mills Road to Cheyney Road and then back to Creek Road.   Six separate races were conducted throughout the day including:  women’s, men’s, professional, amateur, general public and youth divisions.  The children raced on CU’s University Circle, and the athletic department sold pizza, hotdogs, and drinks to hungry racers and spectators as a fundraiser to support the men and women’s basketball teams.

Cheyney University was pleased to take part on the First Cheyney Challenge and looks forward to welcoming more people who live, work, attend school, or own a business in the area or have an interest in the future of Cheyney University to visit the beautiful 275-acre campus.  The second annual event is slated for early summer 2009.
