Buffett Says Buy American

Oct. 21, 2008 - PRLog -- After another rough week for the economy came to a close, the man who’s been called the smartest investor of all time released a rather comforting statement…now’s the time to invest in America. The “Oracle of Omaha”, Warren Buffett, took out some space in the New York Times to let the rest of the country know that they should follow his lead and put some of their hard earned dollars back into our own economy. Sighting the fact that fears regarding the long-term prosperity of our nation are largely unfounded and essentially false, Buffett’s statements seem to address not only the stock market, but American business as a whole. While many businesses have been moving their operations outside the U.S. to save money and boost profits, Buffett is urging consumers to stick with companies that can proudly say Made in America.

Unfortunately, Laudadio's sentiment is being shared by less and less businesses as the economy continues to wobble on shaky ground and scare production out of the U.S. Although Warren Buffett has been the most trusted voice in the investing world for decades, his latest statement regarding the need for consumer confidence in the businesses that support our economy has people listening to him on a whole new level. Financial analyst, Bernie Goldman, has studied manufacturing in America for the last 18 years and the data he has gathered supports Buffet's statement on several levels. "If more business owners, and specifically manufacturing businesses had the same vision as Chris Laudadio, we wouldn't be in the economic mess we are facing today", said Goldman. "People need to realize that supporting businesses that choose to keep their operations in the U.S. is by far the best way that we can succeed as a country and pump money back into our ailing economy. The government can issue stimulus checks all year long, but if the citizens receiving this money choose to spend it on products that are being manufactured in other countries, than this just further hurts the situation. If the Fed is going to issue another round of checks, they need to require the spending to be on American made products. Period."

Whether you follow the economy on a daily basis or pick up the depressing sound bites while flipping through the channels, it's clear that times are a little rough. While many aspects of the financial climate are seemingly out of our control, one thing is very clear. Now is the time to buy American!
