BirdToys.com acquires the Domain Name Bird-Cages.com

Nov. 29, 2008 - PRLog -- Local Orange County, Ca Entrepreneur and Web Developer Kevin Allen and founder of the social network and largest message boards online BirdBoard.com a little over 6 months ago acquired the domain name http://www.BirdToys.com and now for Christmas has acquired http://www.Bird-Cages.com for an undisclosed amount.

His unplanned success of http://www.BirdBoard.com propelled him into a position of growth and acquiring more online real estate and was in his mind the only way to go! Since acquiring  BirdToys.com it has become a devoted source for a huge selection of bird safe bird toys for parrots of all sizes from large bird toys to small bird toys. In the effort to grow into new areas within our expertise we have acquired the domain Bird-Cages.com

"One of my main goals in the development of this project was to create a store that the common parrot lover / bird keeper could relate too and trust for quality products and a great shopping experience.." says founder Kevin Allen "

The website which is planned to introduce new site for Bird-Cages.com with its official launch come January 1st, 2009.

"When it came to making the decision regarding the acquisition of the domain name, I considered some of the high priced domain purchases by young start-ups, and whether it was really worth it?"

Earlier this year a number of domains changed hands for numerous sums, some examples were cameras.com which sold for $1.5 million and Sexeducation.com which sold for $120,000. Among some of the most profitable were short names which are the apex of Web 2.0 like vip.com which sold for $1.4 million. Digg.com which was rumored to be the result of the buyer not willing to pay $4000.00 for dig.com, is perhaps one of the best examples of short names that hold value.

He also went on to say  "It really comes down to do you want to be forever spending money on advertising a domain name people will not remember or can barely spell?  Or do you spend a little more upfront and own a prime location forever? The answer is quite simple, buy a great domain name if you can!"

Although the New Bird-Cages.com owner will not disclose the amount, he suggested it was a well calculated and worthwhile investment.

He left our conversation with this comment “Why Amazon.com didn’t buy books.com in their early days for 2.5 million is beyond me…  How much money have they blown trying to brand amazon.com, seems buying some simpler domain names would have paid for itself in a couple months.”
