PAAO-US Launches Governor’s Campaign

As Part of Fourth Annual Parental Alienation Awareness Day

Jan. 27, 2009 - PRLog -- Parental Alienation Awareness Organization-US (PAAO-US) is beginning the new year by launching its campaign to organize events for the fourth annual Parental Alienation Awareness Day with the Governor’s Campaign. To date, fifteen Governors plus Bermuda’s Governor of Rehabilitation have signed proclamations in an effort to help people understand the painful and damaging effects these behaviors have on children.  Because most people do not know about Parental Alienation until they experience it, Parental Alienation Awareness was conceived to help educate about this growing problem.

The mission of PAAO-US is to help the public and professional community become aware of certain behaviors, often seen in the context of divorce, which can damage the parent-child relationship.  Behaviors such as speaking negatively about a parent to a child, interfering with communication between a parent and child, and sharing inappropriate information have the potential to leave the child confused, angry, and frightened. Most mental health professionals agree that these actions are a form of emotional abuse.

One of the PAAO-US activities involves asking the state Governors to issue proclamations declaring April 25th, as Parental Alienation Awareness Day.   “We are calling on our United States residents to request proclamations from their governors so that everyone in every state will be made aware of the pain and damage parental alienation behaviors can do to our children and families,” states Theresa Martin, director of Parental Alienation Awareness Organization-US (PAAO-US).  “We are looking to make parental alienation part of the public vocabulary. Its behaviors and effects must be understood so that we can address solutions to these situations,” Ms. Martin adds.

PAAO-US is striving to make 2009 the year that children will be able to give and receive all the love they deserve.  For more information on parental alienation, the Governor’s campaign, and events commemorating Parental Alienation Awareness Day-April 25th or to volunteer, please email info@paao-us.com
