April is National Face Protection Month. Is your company in compliance?

March 31, 2009 - PRLog -- Cartersville, Atlanta, Georgia -  Face protection; we don’t think much about it, but thousands of surgeries are performed every year because of accidents resulting in facial injury.  The month of April is designated as National Face protection month, and the good people of H & R Fire and Safety want you to be vigilant when it comes to your safety.  OSHA requires that employers provide eye and face protection for any job where the potential for eye and or facial damage could occur.  These jobs could be in the grinding, welding, radiation, or chemical fields to name just a few.  There are probably millions of people who work in these areas, yet statistics show that only about 15% of workers required to wear this form of protection actually wear it.  Most employees don’t wear it because they claim it’s uncomfortable.  Others won’t wear it because they say their vision is impaired.  Either reason isn’t really a reason at all anymore.  Headgears have become lighter.  Face shields are clearer and more scratch resistant.  Soft cushioning now can be found in the front and the back of the headgear for improved all day comfort.  All these things go into making it easier for the worker to remain safe form eye and face injury.  If you make your living around anything that would require you to wear eye and face protection, don’t be one of the 85% who choose not to use it.  After all, most of us ain’t much to look at, but hey, why take a chance on making it worse?  H & R Fire and Safety has all the major brands of face protection in stock.  Every brand of visor from MSA to Tasco; from Bullard to Wilson; even Crews and everything in between can be found at H & R.
