Follow on Google News | Former Mtv Vj Believes To Pay It Forward With La Live Music Fundraiser For African Orphans”“The Builder,” a non-profit organization with the vision to provide financial aid to a school in the Kibera Slums in Kenya, are producing a live music fund raiser which will be held at the Air Conditioned Supper Club in Venice on June 13th.
By: RULA PR Ms Brown, and friends formed “The Builder,” a non-profit organization with the vision to provide financial assistance to this school and is providing a safe place for the kids. The live music fund raiser will be held at the Air Conditioned Supper Club in Venice and will bring together a memorable night of cutting edge music talent and a raffle “We are creating a space for generosity for people to contribute to support these 230 African children. Everyone who comes out to see the bands will be giving the children the opportunity to live their lives to the fullest potential and make a difference in their community, and perhaps their country. This is a chance to pay it forward to these children” says Shorty Brown. When the girls traveled to Africa they met Agnes Musau, the founder of DFC, who also grew up in the slums and started rescuing abandoned children and provided for them in her own home. As the grassroots movement gained momentum she opened an unofficial school for the children in the in a small corridor of the slums called Drug Fighters and Counseling for the Young Generations ( DFC) . “DFC” has had no funding since their contract from a Finland Government has come to an end at the end of 2008. It was apparent the kids needed food, education, school uniforms, teachers, supplies, and a safe place to go. The school is an unofficial settlement within the slum which is densely populated and poverty is openly visible. Poor sanitation, lack of infrastructure, raw open sewage and other difficult conditions like sexual abuse, child labor, drug abuse, disease, poor knowledge of health, AIDS are all plentiful. Shorty Brown was an MTV VJ in Australia and during her successful radio career in Australia she’d sky dived and swum with sharks, however nothing has been as rewarding for her than being able to make a difference in the lives of these Kenyan kids in need. “We have the opportunity to give 230 children an education, a chance for them to do something with their lives, and then ‘maybe’ they might pay it forward to their community” “The Builders” will host an amazing band line up. ‘BUTTER are the child prodigy band only 11 – 13 years old from ‘School of Rock’ and have performed all over LA, They are already turning heads when even the band “Rush” stopped to listen to them. Long Beach local singer songwriter ‘Alicia Murphy’ will be hitting the stage with a few new songs. For some authentic flavor they have Stevie whose a regular at Little Ethiopia and believe hes in the Rastafarian family. International German sensation Loyal Enemy will be is in the house and are guaranteed to blow your socks off.
