June 22, 2009 - PRLog -- This is the conclusion, drawn in the «How People Use Social Media» survey, conducted by Knowledge Networks. A total of 502 respondents on 27 different social resources were interrogated.

According to the authors of the report, the audience of the social networks, such as Facebook or Twitter, has no more growth potential, because everybody, who wanted to use them, already do so. However, only abut one half (47%) of the social network audience aged between 13 and 54 years use them regularly to get information, read reviews or to find some recommendations and they do it at least once a week.
Knowledge Networks insists that social media are much less effective than such marketing instruments, as word of mouth or traditional TV-advertising. Only 5% of the respondents use social networks to get advise about what product to buy and only 16% admitted, that advertising on social networks has a strong influence on their buying decisions.
Dave Tice, the chief vice-president of Knowledge Networks explains these results by the fact that most people use social networks for communication and not for marketing purposes.
According to Knowledge Networks, the most effective marketing instruments are word of mouth, followed by TV-advertising. The effectivity of social media advertising is comparable to printed media or banner advertising.
