July 19, 2009 - PRLog -- Hitachi now offers s cheap alternative to a NAS (Networked Attached Storage). It’s a small adapter about the size of a thumb, that allows you to hotswap any USB drive between your PC and a network via a standard network cable.

At a price of $79 MSRP this nifty little thing could be a cheap solution instead of buying an actual NAS. You simply attach the USB cable in one end and the network cable in the other, it’s as simple as that. You can even plug in a USB memory stick or a card reader in stead of a hard drive.

The Hitachi SimpleNET USB NAS adapter supports transfer speeds of up to 100 Mbps and works with most operating systems such as Windows Vista, Windows XP, Linux, Mac. Furthermore, the adapter comes with software for creating accounts and configuring acces to the networked storage device. You can setup FTP access drives, an iTunes server and more. There is no need for the storage device to be re-formatted, since most formats are supported.
