Call Box office for tickets on: 609 492 9477 It's been 50 years since ”The Day the Music Died” and a single-engine plane crashed into a snow-covered Iowa field, instantly killing three men whose names would become enshrined in the history of rock 'n' roll. The passing decades haven't diminished fascination with that night in, 1959, when 22-year-old Buddy Holly, 28-year-old J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson and 17-year-old Ritchie Valens performed in Clear Lake and then boarded the plane for a planned 300-mile flight that lasted only minutes. To commemorate this anniversary Surflight theatre will present ‘Buddy…the Buddy Holly Story’, a musical celebration of the legendary singer/songwriter, who shot to stardom in 1957, only to be tragically killed in the plane crash two years later. Featuring a score full of over twenty classic toe-tappin’ tunes, including “Peggy Sue,” “That’ll Be the Day,” “Johnny B. Goode” and “Chantilly Lace,”.The musical chronicles the life of one of America’s biggest music icons, from Holly’s first recording contract and move to New York to his fatal tour of Midwest America, and explains how, in just three short years, he changed the face of popular music forever. This feel-good musical has garnered worldwide praise it’s a show not to be missed as Buddy sings his way through two hours of some of the best rock 'n' roll songs ever written. Directed by Steve Steiner, producing artistic director of Surflight theatre who appeared in the original company of ‘Buddy…’ on Broadway Starring Todd Meredith as Buddy, this is Todd's seventh production portraying the role.
