How to Trace People Using the Electoral Roll

You can now use the internet to trace people using the electoral roll.

Sept. 14, 2009 - PRLog -- Firstly you will need to access the electoral roll, you can use various companies to do this for you, and different companies do this in different ways. Some charge a one of fee which is useful if you only require one search on a specific person. Others want to charge a lot more to grant access over a longer period of time or for a certain number of searches.

Some of these searches can be computer generated so you have to be extremely accurate with your search criteria, should you search with a wrong spelling you will not achieve the results you require. Other companies do this in a different way, they use a member of staff to compile the results on your behalf, and the advantage of this is of course that they will use common sense to narrow down your search results on your behalf. I would always recommend using a company that uses trained staff rather than algorithms to obtain your results. You can then know that you have the most chance of being successful in your search, for example; the company that uses trained staff can widen the search should there be more valid results slightly out of your original field, a computer will not do this, a person will also look at varieties  of spelling, yes you might know that the spelling you have is correct but how do you know that the person who imputed the data on to the electoral roll didn’t make a small mistake that wasn’t picked up and made it onto the database, it does happen but unfortunately the computer will not account for this.

Once you have your results you need to consider a few other things. Most companies only have access to the electoral roll so some people have opted to remove themselves from the register. This means that if they did this at the earliest point they will not show at an address past 2003 but this does not mean that they no longer live there, this again is something that a trained person could account for but a computer will not.

The electoral roll will tell you:
•   Who lives at a particular address
•   How long they have lived there
•   Who they live with

This information is obviously important, you can also work out from the dates on the electoral roll where people have moved from and moved to, you can also perform name match searches where you follow two people between addresses through the electoral roll.

Tracing people online using the electoral roll is a useful way to find information you are looking for. Just make sure you use a company you can trust.

Also consider that the electoral roll is a historical document, it cannot by its very nature ever be up to date. The information has to be collected and then collated before it can be released to companies who put it online, this process as a minimum takes four months and in some cases is even longer, because of this the electoral roll should be used as a trace tool and its findings alone should not be the only source you use.

Good luck Tracing People Using the Electoral Roll
